Default Price Dropped for Prophecies and Factions

At online stores, Guild Wars Prophecies and Factions cost about $30.00 now. This is a little disconcerting to me. I always liked that older Guild Wars campaigns still cost more than most editions of WoW. I guess Nightfall is just overshadowing the others with its success?

I don't want to see Factions or Prophecies go. I love Guild Wars. No ghost towns!

Maybe the lower price will draw new players. Do you think the price drop is indicative of the decline of the first two campaigns?

I do agree.
  • Prophecies should be lowered to $10 or less
  • Factions - $15 or less.
A lot of UK stores have already dropped the price of Prophecies below £10... but the online store should do the same to get more people playing older chapters.

Afterall there are a number of new players starting fresh and have Nightfall only.

Maybe someone can tell me if I'm crazy or what, but prior to the release of Nightfall, on the GW Online Store, Factions' price tag was $39.99. I remember saying to myself, I'll just order it online and save the waste of getting a box, but when I went to buy it, I noticed it was now $49.99 (post NF release). Am I just imagining things or did they actually jump the price back up?

I guess I can just get it from another place, but still, kinda strange.

39.99 is the price for the PVP skill pack.

I find it a bit off, but no more than the local EB Games selling the NF CE for 29.99. On a side note; good for me, I just upgraded my mule account to fanctions and NF.

Did PVP only always get storage and the mat upgrade free?

Anet doesn't control prices -- they wholesale to retailers. As for what retailers do, that's up to them. Like it or not, this game will eventually be in the bargain bin.

As time passes and newer products roll out, it is natural that older products fall in price, unless it was something special, like the Collector's Edition.

Decline is already noticeable. A lot of times, you can count the number of characters in Prophecies mission locations with one hand. The drop in price will encourage those who started with Nightfall to go and get the older campaigns, so I don't see a problem with it.

This is normal.

As long as the "current" GuildWars still sells at normal MSRP, I feel it's healthy.
Now if Nightfall took a hit.. before any sign of Chapter 4, I would start thinking about it.

It's the norm for older games (and Orginal GW / Factions are stand alone) to drop in price.

What "editions" you mean World of Warcraft and...ummm....the only expansion released for it? Editions makes it sound like there are 4+ expansions out there.

A reduced price is good. You can buy the newest expansion OR, for a new player, pay 10 bucks more for 2 games. I like it.

I think as time goes by you'll see a Prophecies/Factions bundle targeted at folks who only have Nightfall.

Yes but retailers are operating on a very small margin. I think it's 3-5 dollars per game, which is why not even walmart can get away with being cheaper than everyone else. So if they have dropped the prices by $10 that means either Anet has lowered the cost it sells to retailers or they are now willing to take a loss to get rid of the game and clear up self space.

i think the Anet should lower to price of Factions and Prophecies in THIER store so i can buy it from them. So much easier for me as I tend to forget to pick up factions when I am out...also would have a hard to justifying spending 50 bucks for factions from in game store when i can get it for 30 at a retailer...

I tend to think a year old game should be selling for a little less then a new game that just came out.

and you're not getting the same "life" out of the game that you would be if you bought the game new. Prophecies is nowhere near as crowded as it was a year ago... why should people pay the same price?

Especially if chapter four heads off in a new direction, expect to find the first three chapters sold as a "bundle", or even to be bundled with special editions of a new chapter. This is typically how game companies squeeze a few more dollars out of their products, while encouraging new players to join in.

As with other games, the older they get the cheaper they get, but with guildwars we really have to try and encourage people to go and play Tyria, i think next chapter should come with prophecies for free

PCWorld have been selling NightFall for £17.99 since it's release if you order it online (and pickup at the store). Every shop is different, I don't think it reflects on the popularity of the game.

UK prices:

GWs 1 - £14.99 on play.com.
Other two campaigns - £17.99 on play.com.

WoW prices are around £9.99 for main one, and £17.99 for BC.

That shows a trend which shouldnt be unexpected. Older campaigns of any game, will cost less. Its how the market works.

People want to play the newest expansion or version of a game. Its always been that way and it always will. So they drop the price of the older ones to shift more copies.

But the truth is that you will eventually have less, and less players in older campaigns. Thats bound to happen due to the same reason. Players want to play the most recent expansions before the older ones.

This is why I've personally taken a break from GWs to try other MMOs games (no names mentioned), because after 2 years its starting to get stale. GWs, is a wonderfull game, but it doesnt have enough content to keep you in each campaign for ever and you always end up with quests you cant complete in older campaigns due to the drindling numbers.

You then move onto the newer ones, and the old ones are left behind. But Ive personally done all 3 to the extent I can. So its a holiday to Azeroth for me.

No doubt I'll be back when the new campaign is released.
